Art and Craft
For Young Students
Craft and art
projects are for children between the ages of 4 and 9. By doing these projects
students improve their creativity and become ready for more advanced
presentations and model making that is required in higher grades.
Younger children use Styrofoam
balls to make snowperson, mouse, cat, models of fruits, models of flowers
and other artistic products.
After the age of 9 students use Styrofoam
balls to make models of atoms, molecules, Solar System, Earth. Moon.
In all such projects you will use
Styrofoam balls along with wood glue, water based paints and other
household or craft items such as thread, buttons, color fabric and
pins.

Sparkles the Snowperson
Sparkles is a very easy snowperson to create.
You will need:
- 2" Styrofoam ball
- 2 1/2" Styrofoam ball
- 3" Styrofoam ball (Note: or use 3 balls
each slightly larger than the others)
- 4 toothpicks
- Mini black pom poms
- Orange chenille stem (pipe cleaner)
- Wire cutters
- Tacky glue
- A piece of ribbon or felt
- A butter knife
Here is what you do:
- Take a butter knife and even off the bottom
of the largest Styrofoam ball. This will allow the snowman to stand up.
- Push a toothpick halfway into the top of the
largest Styrofoam ball. (Make sure the flat bottom is on the table).
- Push the medium-sized Styrofoam ball onto
the toothpick.
- Push a toothpick a little more than halfway
into the top of the medium-sized Styrofoam ball. (Note: You don't want the
toothpick sticking out the top of the head!)
